Gifford Hirlinger is a small, family owned estate winery located in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley. They focus on making the best wines possible using fruit grown in their own estate vineyards.  Production is small and tightly focused, since they only make wines from their own grapes.

I happened upon their Stateline Red, named after their vineyard right on the Washington border in the Walla Walla Valley, while tasting local reds for the fall season, and knew it would be perfect for the cooler weather. It combines Cabernet, Merlot, Tempranillo and Malbec for a ripe, fruit-forward character with a touch of allspice and oak, artfully melded by five years of ageing.
