Our new menu is now in place in all the Portland-area Pastini's, and I think we can officially call it a hit.  The Pesto-Parmesan Bread is selling like hot cakes (sorry) and Mamma's Four Cheese Ziti seems to be the favorite new pasta.  I've been eating the new Linguini with Basil Pesto, I just love the simplicity and fresh summery basil flavor.  Also, the Orecchiete with Greens, Lemon and Parmesan is another perfect summer pasta, very light, healthy and piquant.

The restaurants are gearing up for a flood of runners coming in the next two days before the Hood to Coast Relay on Friday and Saturday.  They need their carbs and we are here for them.  And don't forget, we can substitute whole wheat in most of our dishes at no charge...it's even better for carbo loading.  If you see a group of women in Pastini hats, it's probably the Sole Sisters team...have fun sistahs!

Seen" Eat Pray Love" yet?  There are lots of food eating scenes in Italy, but our favorite part is the character named Spaghetti.  Really, that's his name.  For this reason, we nominate EPL as our movie of the year.  Last year it was "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", of course.

Finally, there is a great event downtown at Director Park  this Sunday from 3-5 pm.  The Portland Opera chorus will hold a free rehearsal of Pagliacci and Carmina Burana, their opening operas for the 2010-2011 season.  How cool is that?  If the music gets you in an Italian mood, you can simply stroll across the street to Pastini and have dinner after, or order some pasta-to-go for the park.

Enjoy!
